The wikia mostly covers the 'mangahood' version of the story, so not all of the information here will be relevant. Anything referring to the 2003 anime or Conqueror of Shamballa will be accurate, though.

Personality: Al can easily be summed up with the phrase 'kindness in a can'. He has always been compassionate and understanding of others, doing his best to help those around him and make them a little happier. That core part of him has never completely changed, though it has become somewhat cloaked with the wisdom of growing up far faster than his years. He's learned to not take everything at face value, especially after five years of traveling with his brother searching for the Stone and taking on missions for the military. Still, he looks for reasons to trust and help people, as it's against his core nature to turn his back on another.

Al seems to naturally pick up friends wherever he goes. Part of it is his kind nature and honest face, but he does make a large conscious effort to be friendly and polite with everyone he meets. It's something of a holdover from his years spent in the armor and his effort to not be completely ostracized because of his fearsome appearance. He hates the idea of being alone and values any friendship or connection he makes, doing his best to leave the people he encounters happier or in a better place than when he first met them. He is often giving advice where he sees it is needed, hoping to give a different perspective and help troubled people find stable ground again.

He is always willing to help someone in need, whether it's simply helping to carry a heavy load or to rescue them from a truly dangerous situation. It seems to be an Elric trait to throw oneself headfirst into danger, and Al's first impulse is always to save someone else before himself. If he sees someone being picked on, he'll step up for them, usually finding a way to defuse the situation with as little violence as possible. Back when he was an armor this was of course a lot easier, but he can be very clever with words and finding the right thing to say to get the result he wants--he isn't above using his innocent face against people if it's necessary.

Al is very smart, having studied alchemy since he was four and actually survived an attempt at human transmutation at the age of 9. While his focus is on alchemy and the sciences, he is very quick-witted and able to pick up new concepts very easily and adapt to new situations. He is quite perceptive about other people as well, often figuring out things about them they try to keep hidden. While he doesn't have his brother's hatred of religion, he lends a lot more credence to evidence and logic than anything that could be considered magic or the hand of god.

Al is an incredibly patient person, the belligerence of others rolling off of his hide easily. That's not to say he doesn't have a temper, but it is a low and slow-burning one in opposition to his brother's explosive personality. More often than not his anger is defused in trying to handle Edward getting pissed off on his behalf, but the few times Al has gotten truly furious himself were quite the scary experience for the subject of his ire. The phrase 'beware the quiet ones' is very apt when describing Al, but his equable personality means that such events are very, very rare.

When discussing Alphonse it's impossible to not bring up Edward. Ever since they were little they've been two sides of the same coin, and the bond between them has only grown stronger with age. They understand each other on a deep and unspoken level, and Alphonse is utterly and completely devoted to his older brother. He literally can't conceive of living without Edward, as evidenced by his two years spent searching for him when no trace was left, and sacrificing both his life and the Stone when Edward was killed to bring him back.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Alphonse is and has always been of genius-level intellect, and very logical. He contributed quite a lot to his and Edward's attempt to bring back their mother, and even after loosing his memories of traveling with Edward he has accomplished several amazing feats with alchemy that would have taken no small amount of study. His scientific approach to things will make understanding his new life and figuring out the issues ahead certainly a lot easier than most others would find it.
+ Al has been shown often in the series to be fond of cats, and given that they have rarely attacked him for his trouble even when he was a giant hulking suit of armor, one can easily assume he is very good with animals--which will certainly be of help in Route, since Pokémon aren't all that dissimilar to animals in their behavior.
+ Al is also in very good physical shape, and very used to camping out in the wilderness. He and Edward have camped out plenty of times, and as a test from their teacher they survived on a deserted island for a month using no alchemy and no tools but a knife at the bare age of seven. Travel between cities will be no hard task for him.
+ He is also used to combat and fighting alongside another, which would translate well to directing his Pokémon in a battle. Given that Ed and Al are likely of equal physical fitness, Al's continued dominance in their spars is likely due to him being better at reading his opponents and taking advantage of the openings they leave.

- Al is horrifically, HORRIFICALLY co-dependent on his brother. He had a near mental breakdown when he was given reason to believe Edward had created him out of whole cloth and he wasn't who he thought he was, and when Wrath threatened to take the rest of Edward's body to try and become human himself, it took Izumi's intervention to keep the normally peaceful Alphonse from tearing the homunculus limb from limb. Any interaction involving Edward, especially threats towards him, will be colored by this, and should Ed disappear the effect on Al would be even more drastic.
- Alphonse tends to be overly optimistic, not really thinking of the worst case scenario until it's too obvious to ignore. This can easily get him into trouble, especially when dealing with people that are less than trustworthy; as when Tucker took advantage of Alphonse coming to him for lessons in using the Stone.
- While Al is incredibly intelligent, he still hasn't had much contact with modern technology or culture. Things like planes and video calls are utterly foreign to him, and while he certainly will be able to adapt, it's still going to trip him up for quite some time. (Seriously, he might try sending money to a Nigerian prince, SOMEONE KEEP AN EYE ON THIS CHILD.)
- If one knows the right face of personality to wear, Al can be very easy to manipulate. Even knowing that it was Envy, hearing 'Winry' say she loved him was enough to trip up Al for the few moments needed to trap him, and if Ed hadn't arrived Al would have been helpless against Sloth. It isn't only physical resemblances that can sway him, but any form of attachment Al has that can be used to string him along.

Samples
First Person Sample: [Al had taken some time fumbling around with the Gear once he got out of that odd town, testing the buttons and managing to reason his way into making a video post--though he doesn't realize that it is transmitting video yet. He's sitting at the base of a tree, and actually seems relatively calm about all this. It isn't the first time he's been tossed into a strange new world, though at least the last time he'd meant to go there.] Okay, I think it's recording...um, hello! I just got here, and I've read that little book, so I know what we're supposed to be here for, but...does anyone have any information as to how we were transported here? The only method I know to move between worlds like this doesn't...really seem to apply here.

[It looks like he would continue, but his Shinx takes that moment to pounce into his lap and headbutt under his chin--gently, though, and clearly just wanting attention.] Ah, jeez! It's barely been five minutes, can't I pay attention to something else for that long? --um, sorry, my Pokémon is being kind of needy...are they always like this? I know we're supposed to battle them, but this little guy is so much like a little kitten I can't see him fighting anything except his own tail! [And really, he's kind of offended by that concept in general. It's so cruel!!]

Third Person Sample: Travel around Johto wasn't all that much of a hardship for Alphonse--he'd spent years on the road both with and without Edward, and despite the local fauna being unusually rowdy it wasn't hard at all to find a safe place to camp each night. In comparison to travelling around the East, where there was often far less in the way of potable water and natural shelter, this world was like a vacation to him. As for the food...that was proving to be a slightly bigger problem.

Al groans and rolls over, clutching his stomach and trying to will the pain away. Why, why did he try to eat those berries? Why hadn't anybody warned him about them?! Not even those mushrooms on Yock Island had been this bad! Again his stomach clenches and twists in a way that feels like it's making an elaborate knot in his belly, and he lets out a long, low moan of woe. "I think I'm gonna die..."

His Shinx nudges him with his nose and whines, worried about his poor trainer. Al looks up at him and manages a smile, patting the Pokémon on the head. "I'll be okay, buddy, promise. Just not gonna be sleeping well tonight, that's all." The Shinx whines again and curls up pressed against Al's chest, and he sighs and forces himself to sit up so he can hold and comfort his Pokémon. "I'm okay, really. I'm just sick right now from the berries, I'll be better in the morni--"

And of course that's the moment that his stomach decides it needs a vacancy pronto, and Al scrambles to get to the bushes and not throw up all over his poor Shinx, who is now yelping and running around Al in a panic. Alphonse groans and flops back onto his side, wishing he could transmute himself something to help the ache in his guts. This is going to be a very, very long night...
