[By the time Al responds, Lust has already come in and Envy doesn't even see the text for a while.]
[When he does glance back at his 'Gear, it's like a punch to the gut. He doesn't respond himself, because what can he say to that, besides the kneejerk "I don't want your help"? Because he doesn't, doesn't want Alphonse Elric's help or pity or anything at all. He tells himself that he doesn't send it because Lust is in the room and will see him typing and ask questions.]
[He also does his best to ignore the small, insistent voice in the back of his head saying 'no I don't'.]
[Until he can fall asleep, he's just trying not to think about it, to focus on other things. Maybe in the morning he can think of this interaction as nothing meaningful, or as a weird dream.]
[Wishful thinking. Those words are going to stick in his head for a long time.]
[Even if Envy had sent a response, Alphonse wouldn't have seen it until morning. His book is forgotten at this point, as the conflicting guilt and worry twist his stomach around, tighten like a vice around his heart.]
[He should hate Envy, despise every fiber of his being, but he...he can't, anymore. He's seen too much of the hidden parts of the homunculus, the few bits and pieces of him that aren't a broken wreck. And now that he has, he wants to help; it's his nature, he can't help it. But every time he sees his half-brother he also sees Edward bleeding out on the ground, the light fading out of his eyes while Al could do nothing to stop it.]
[He falls asleep curled up tightly against his Luxray's side, tears staining the mane where it cushioned his head.]
[Envy is upstairs when he sees this post go up on the network.]
[Did he know that the resident circus strongman gave a single solitary damn about Wrath? NO. HE DID NOT.]
[...there's only one person in the house who might be enough of a goody-two-shoes to blow their cover. Envy leaps out of the bed and takes the stairs down three at a time. THERE MIGHT NOT BE MUCH TIME. He sees Al on the couch and SLAMS his hands down on the back of it right behind him, hissing out in case he's on the line with someone.]
[Al had seen that post go up as well, and even had it open on the Gear. He does, however, has the goddamn sense of mind to not blurt about a crime in progress on the network just because someone asked about it, and so is just watching the replies start to roll in with a worried expression.]
[At least until Envy descends on the couch like some freakish monster and HISSES RIGHT IN HIS EAR WHAT THE FUCK. Al shrieks and the Gear goes flying across the room as he leaps up and swats at Envy blindly.} What the hell?!
[Normally, Envy would fall all over himself laughing at Al's reaction. But right now he has other concerns.]
[He swats right back at Al, though. Don't you smack him! Can't you hear the dramatic Fullmetal Alchemist background music? BWONGnehnehnehneeeeh. This is important!]
[Envy looks so very, very disbelieving as he puts his hands on his hips for emphasis and rolls his eyes like Al's the unreasonable one and Envy didn't just panic and scramble down the stairs.]
You could've fooled me. You're some straight-laced...marshmallow fluff, for all I knew you would've felt bad and caved and told them everything!
[Then about thirty seconds later Roy tries again and gets it right but he's still looking at the thing claiming it's making a call skeptically and with a little annoyance.]
[Well the call is working and the sound quality is great, just like everything else he's heard on this thing so far. Fuery would love this. But how the hell does someone 'accidentally' call a person on this thing?]
People accidentally make phone calls on these things?
